Oh the weather outside is (slightly) chilly, the sky is a tad bit grayer, Eagle Hills in Brea can be seen from space, and my students are all working on Mariah Carey’s runs in “All I Want For Christmas.” It must be Christmas time in Orange County! To get in the spirit of things, I decided to share 6 Christmas song performances that I love. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
1. Whitney Houston – Do You Hear What I Hear
What’s there to say? It’s Whitney, and she’s singing, so it’s worth watching. This is one of my favorites out of all her Christmas song performances.
2. Kelly Clarkson – Grown Up Christmas List
This has always been one of my favorites. Sometimes Christmas songs don’t benefit from being made too poppy, but this one is perfect for Kelly’s voice.
3. Idina Menzel and Michael Buble – Baby It’s Cold Outside
The video is too adorable to miss.
4. Silent Night – Beyonce
If you enjoy the pure unadorned version of this song, the first time she sings it will make you happy. If you like listening to Beyonce-esque vocal gymnastics, the second time around should be exactly what you’re looking for. There’s something for everyone here.
5. All I Want For Christmas – Olivia Olsen
I couldn’t resist. I fell in love with this song 11 years ago watching this little girl sing in Love Actually. That little boy drummer is now in Game of Thrones.
6. Santa Baby – La Nee Mendez
She isn’t quite as famous as Eartha Kitt (yet), but here’s my student La Nee singing “Santa Baby.” Credit goes to one of our recording engineers, Hannah Finegold for recording and mixing it.
Yes, I know there about a billion other great ones. We’d love to hear your favorites in the comment section.
