Lina Mafi has been involved with music and the performing arts for 18 years. She began singing in church choir and remained in church and school choirs through college. At the age of 6, she performed her first solo, singing Franck’s Panis Angelicus to a large crowd. Lina has had the honor of performing with her high school and college choirs at the Hollywood Bowl in the 2010 revival of Hairspray, in the famous Carnegie Hall, all throughout the United States, and in multiple European countries, including Vienna, Hungary, and Estonia. Additionally, she has years of experience performing in student recitals, church performances, show choir competitions, musicals, and competitions.
Throughout her musical career, Lina has studied with numerous distinguished voice coaches throughout California, with whom she has studied classical training, the anatomy behind singing, innovative performance techniques, and repertoire ranging from arias to contemporary pop.
Lina was the recipient of a full-time vocal music scholarship to attend her alma mater, Saint Mary’s College of California. During her time there, she pursued a minor in vocal music performance. Her courses included vocal master classes, intensive private lessons, and courses in music theory. During her time in college, Lina performed in two competitions held by the Bay Area chapter of the National Association of Vocal Teachers and Students. She placed first in the Collegiate and Post-Collegiate Contemporary Music categories and second in the Collegiate Musical Theatre category.
In her lessons, Lina works with students in order to master healthy vocal production, music theory, and compelling stage presence by applying these skills to a diverse, challenging repertoire. Lina and her students collaboratively define the student’s musical goals and select engaging repertoire that works to achieve these goals. Lina’s love of music stems from a passion for the vulnerability and beauty of performing and connecting with others through music. This deep passion for music informs her teaching style, as she emphasizes her students’ deep connection to the music through in depth lyrical and musical analysis, personalized performance techniques, and creative exercises.
