Student Spotlight

Sabrina E.

Sabrina is not only an excellent voice and piano student, but a beautiful human being who has dreams of performing in order to raise money to save animals. We’ve had the pleasure of getting to watch her and her older sister Audrey at almost all our events over the years. They even performed together at our Red Carpet Recital, when Audrey played the Elphaba to Sabrina’s Galinda in the song “Popular.” Sabrina is passionate about both musical theatre and animals. Her favorite animal is a fennec fox.

Q & A with Sabrina

MM: What are some of your favorite hobbies, outside of music? Favorite school subjects, books, movies, shows, sports?

SE: My favorite school subjects are art, science, creative writing and reading. I love to read and my two favorite book series are Harry Potter and Wings of Fire, which is about a group of young dragons who come together to fulfill a prophecy. My favorite types of movies are animal movies like Lady and the Tramp. My favorite sports are softball, soccer, tennis, basketball and 4 square. One of my favorite YouTube channels is Mr Beast.

MM: How did you get started with music, and how long have you been singing and playing piano?

SE: My grandma Mima tells me I would sing myself to sleep when I was a toddler. I started doing musical theater when I was 4 and enjoyed singing songs from musicals. I’ve only been doing piano for a bit over a year now.

MM: What have been some of your favorite performances, and why? How do you share your music with others, beyond recitals?

SE: I enjoy singing at Molly’s Music recitals and I sometimes sing at family events. I also like singing to my baby brother to help him sleep. I really enjoyed being part of the ensemble in Lion King Jr and Frozen Jr because they were big theatrical productions with singing, dancing and fabulous props, lights and costumes.

MM: What makes you keep up your practice, and what are your goals?

SE: I keep up my practices because I enjoy singing and want to be able to sing while I play the piano. My goal is to one day have a leading role singing in a musical production. I want to start a place where I can save animals and maybe have a stage to perform on so I can earn money to help save the animals.

MM: Who are a few bands/artists/musicals that have inspired you, and why?

SE: The musicals that have inspired me are Wicked which I got to see last Christmas with my sister and grandma.

MM: What are some of your favorite songs, and why?

SE: Some of my favorite songs include, Lily, Darkside, and my favorite songs by Alan Walker. I love these songs because they sound really good in the Nightcore versions and I am a big fan of Nightcore songs. These types of songs are played as the background music in my favorite type of YouTube videos called Gatcha. Gatcha is Animated anime characters where YouTubers animate their stories using these characters and the word bubbles above their heads. I am a huge fan of Gatcha stories on YouTube.

MM: Can you share about a technique, skill, or song you struggled with, and how you are overcoming or have overcome it?

SE: A technique that I struggled with was making my voice louder and less airy.  I’m still working on it but I learned to give my voice more volume and support. It helps my voice a lot so that when I sing my song whether it’s a soft or loud song I can give my voice lots of support and make it sound good.

MM: You’ve done an amazing job at so many of our events. What was your favorite?

SE: My favorite event was the red carpet event. I like being able to sing my favorite song from wicked, and pretend to boss my sister around the whole time! It was really fun getting to see the expression on her face LOL!

MM: Do you have a musical theatre dream role?

SE: Currently I am practicing with my awesome teacher Anne for a role in The Little Mermaid Jr. I would love to be Ariel but if that doesn’t work out I would be happy with Flounder or another character.

MM: Do you have any social media sites, like a YouTube channel you’d like to share, or anything else you’d like to share?

SE: Yes fortunately I do,
