Meet this month’s Student Spotlight, Sunshine, a budding 11-year-old singer who’s always up for new musical endeavors. She has a long list of young pop stars she admires, and we can’t wait to see her up on stage with them one day!
MM: How did you get started with music, and how long have you been singing?
SI: I have always liked music and have always wanted to become a singer. I would sing to myself, and when I was 5 I began lessons.
MM: What makes you keep up your practice, and what are your goals?
SI: My mom keeps me practicing, because she inspires me to learn. She also inspires me to want to become a singer and to play music. She gets me excited and finds ways that I can show my talents.
My goal for music is to become a performer such as Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and more. Also to go on tour with my own music.
MM: Who are a few bands/artists who have inspired you, and why?
SI: Selena Gomez inspires me by the way that she performs on stage and interacts with the audience. Demi Lovato inspires me by her facial expressions and the way that she feels the song she is singing. Ariana Grande inspires me with her beautiful voice and with her great acting talents. And Taylor Swift inspires me by writing amazing songs and performing them really beautifully.
MM: Can you share about a technique, skill, or song you struggled with, and how you are overcoming or have overcome it?
SI: Something that I’ve had to learn how to do is sing classical music. I practiced a lot, and finally I kind of got it. I kept practicing, and it was really hard for me, but I figured it out. It’s still a little bit difficult, but I know how to do it better than I could before.
MM: What advice would you give to other students just starting out?
SI: My advice for someone new to Molly’s Music or to singing is to keep goals and try hard at them. To find something that you really want to do with your talent and then work hard to get that. Also, it’s okay to learn something new. Even if it’s a little hard, you have to try it at some point. Never give up on your goals and your dreams.
