Student Spotlight

Theresa S.

Theresa has been singing since the age of 4. She’s in Voices of Hope Choir, where she got to sing in a televised performance with the famous a cappella group Pentatonix. Theresa was a phenomenal member of our 2018 Pop Star Camp and will be joining us again this August! As one of Anne’s long-term students, Theresa was also invited to perform in our first annual Red Carpet Recital at the Chance Theater. Even with her beautiful voice and excellent work ethic, what we love most about Theresa is her wonderful heart.

Q & A with Theresa

MM: How did you get started with singing, and how long have you been at it? Any other instruments?

TS: I always loved to sing when I was younger. I remember I tried to sing opera when I was four, so I think I’ve been singing since I was 4. I am trying to learn how to play the ukulele right now. When I was younger I wanted to play piano.

MM: How do you share your music with others? What’s your favorite performance so far, and why?

TS: I share music with others by going to my school choir practices and helping my peers with the notes. My favorite Molly’s Music performance was the Red Carpet Recital because I thought that was my best recital yet. My favorite choir performance was that I sang with Pentatonix at the Forum because I love Pentatonix so much and they are so good at singing.

MM: Who are a few favorite bands or artists who have inspired you, and why?

TS: Pentatonix is inspiring to me because when I heard them for the first time I noticed that they did a thing called a cappella, and at that time I never heard that word, and they just were so great at singing and I wanted to be as good as them when I heard them.

MM: What makes you keep up your practice, and what are your goals?

TS: Looking up songs from famous women singers helps me keep up practice because I have always dreamed of being famous. My goals are to win AGT, to write a bunch of good songs, to get famous, to be on world tours, to be in those musical theater groups, and to sing with Pentatonix.

MM: You did such a great job at Pop Star Camp last year! Tell us about it. What was your favorite part?

TS: Pop Star Camp was very cool because I thought about being a star one day because of that camp. My favorite part was that I sang a really cool and fun song.

MM: Anne mentioned you’re in a choir! Tell us about it.

TS: I am in the choir Voices Of Hope. This choir recently went on AGT and went to the semi finals. When AGT was done, I joined the group. They are all very nice and kind to everyone.. I have so much fun there. We recently sang with Pentatonix, and it was so fun with this choir and with the opportunity of going on YouTube and TV.

MM: What advice would you give to a student just starting out?

TS: I would tell the student to never give up. Even if the lessons are hard, you can still try and succeed.

MM: Do you have any performance-based social media sites, like Instagram, Facebook Music, or YouTube you’d like to share?

TS: I have this app called YouTube music and it shows you a bunch of music and your playlist can be without internet.
