In last week’s post, we talked about 5 of the top performing arts programs in Orange County high schools. You can check those out here. As promised, here’s part 2 of my list, with 5 more wonderful schools.
6. Mater Dei High School
For those of you looking for a Catholic school, Mater Dei boasts several excellent choirs that travel the globe singing. It also has an impressive theatre program that puts on both straight plays and musicals, band instruction, and a dance team that won a first-place National Champion title this past year.
7. Tarbut V’Torah Community Day School (TVT)
For those of you looking for a Jewish education, performing arts don’t get much better than at Tarbut V’Torah. Music curriculum begins in Kindergarten and becomes even more exciting in 7th grade, when students can play instruments or sing in Garage Band. The school also offers classes in film, fashion design, and dance and will soon be adding an advanced Institute of Music that includes festival performances and songwriting.
8. Newport Harbor High School (NHHS)
Newport Harbor High offers a variety of arts, from Band and Jazz Band, to choir, to dance. It’s particularly noted for its Theatre Arts program, whose production of “Our Town” recently won #1 production in Orange County at the California Educational Theatre Association festival.
9. Foothill High School
Foothill High offers a variety of performing arts programs, including Band and Theatre Arts, but the arts program is particularly known for its prestigious choirs. Entrance into the Madrigals, Foothill’s most advanced choir, requires a 4-stage audition process. At the end of the year, the choral program puts on the Knights Dinner Theater, rotating around the themes of Broadway, Radio, and Movies.
10. Fountain Valley High School
Fountain Valley High School has a robust performing arts department that includes dance, drama, instrumental music, and vocal music. The vocal department has 9 different choirs, including the award-winning, world travelling Troubadours.
