If you’re trying to make it as a singer of any type, but particularly a musical theatre singer, it’s important that you invest in some dance lessons. If hearing that isn’t motivation enough for you, both the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) and the Academy of the Arts (APA) have a dance component to their musical theatre audition. In fact, OCSA dispensed with its in-person singing audition entirely in place of a YouTube singing audition and a live dance audition. If you’re reading this blog, chances are you already have some interest in music, so here’s a guide to finding great dance lessons in Orange County in order to help you become a triple threat!

1. Jimmie DeFore Dance Center

This Costa Mesa-based dance center is widely regarded as one of the best in Orange County. Unlike many dance studios that require commitment to an academy, Jimmie Defore offers you the option of dropping in for different classes as you see fit, making it perfect when you want to squeeze in some extra practice before a big audition. It offers everything from musical theatre-style jazz to lyrical, tap, and ballet.

2. McCoy Rigby Conservatory of the Arts

Created by Broadway veteran Cathy Rigby and producer Tom McCoy, the McCoy Rigby Conservatory in Yorba Linda is an excellent choice for dance classes, not to mention theatrical productions for kids.

3. Focus Dance Center

If you’re in the Irvine area, Focus Dance Center might be a perfect option for Dance Lessons. As one of the most reputable dance centers in the area, Focus draws students from all over Orange County.

4. Creation Station Dance

If you’re particularly creative and looking for a nurturing environment that offers everything from jazz, to hip hop, to musical theatre dance, you might check out our partner, Creation Station Dance in Mission Viejo and Huntington Beach. In fact, if you attend Creation Station in Huntington Beach, we’ll give you a discount for your first 3 months of music lessons at Molly’s Music.

5. Anaheim Ballet

If your interest lies more in ballet than jazz, the Anaheim Ballet is a great way to go for north Orange County dancers. While jazz classes tend to be a smarter move for Broadway hopefuls, ballet offers a more codified method of gaining technique and body awareness early on and can be an important precursor to other forms of dance.

6. Pacific Ballet Conservatory

If you’re interested in ballet and in the south Orange County area, check out Pacific Ballet Conservatory in Aliso Viejo.

7. Orange County Song and Dance

If Westminster is convenient for you, Orange County Song and Dance has some wonderful musical theatre-style dance classes. It has a particularly strong summer camp program.
